Cherry Blossom Flower

Cherry Blossom Flower – Best Tokyo places to find it. Best time to visit Tokyo to catch the photos.

How to join in on the fun in one of the major Japan festivals.

Cherry Blossom Flower (c) Aske Holst at Flickr The beauty of the Cherry Blossom Flower is extraordinary. The trees come in many shades of pink and almost shine in daylight.
The flowers are so fragile that even a warm spring rain can easily cause the petals to fall.

Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival

The Japanese cherry blossom festival is very short.

Full bloom is usually reached within one week after the opening of the first flower.

A week later, the peak is over and the petals are falling from the trees.

Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees

The blooming time of the Japanese Cherry Blossom Trees changes from year to year depending on the weather.

If the weather during the months before the season is mild, flowers will open early. If it was very cold that winter, the trees will open later.

The start of the season can change from year to year by as much as two weeks.
Every year, around this time, the weather forecasts include reports on the advance of the Sakura zensen. The Meteorological Agency and the media follow the 'Japan cherry blossom front' as it slowly proceeds.

To understand Japans culture you must understand the blossom meaning. The delicate beauty of the flower symbolizes purity and melancholy. Japanese poetry and literature are full of analogies to it.

The meaning and symbolism is translated into the traditional Japanese samurai spirit, the belief that life is short and beautiful. To samurai in the ancient times or Japanese soldiers during World WarII, it was considered a big honor to die in the battlefield like scattered petals. So a glorious death is the other side - the darker side, of the festival symbolism.

"Hana yori dango" means dumplings over flowers, and describes a person who seems to be more interested in eating or drinking alcohol rather than appreciating the beauty of the flowers. Of course this is not a big compliment in Japan.
