Tokyo is a wonderful combination of ancient traditions and sophisticated Japan Entertainment.

In Japan you can have it all!

Tokyo Nights

Tokyo nightlife has it all – Nightclubs, Jazz Clubs, Karaoke, Sake bars, Romantic Restaurants, skyscraper bars with view of urban lights – every kind of entertainment you can think of.

Japanese people who commute in from the suburbs have a choice come midnight in Tokyo - catch the last train home or stay out until the subway starts again at 5:30am. This explains why some bars suddenly lose half their crowd around midnight.

Karaoke

Karaoke became globally famous thanks to the movie 'lost in translation' by Sofia Coppola.

Karaoke is singing the lyrics of a song which are displayed on the screen while you sing. Karaoke bars have private rooms equipped with screens and microphone.
Karaoke – Japanese style – is the ultimate Japan Entertainment experience, an unforgettable kind of Tokyo nightlife.

Kabuki Theatre Show

For a taste of traditional Tokyo nightlife, explore Ginza district. You can spend the evening in a kabuki theatre show.

Kabuki theater is a traditional Japan Entertainment and form of art which started in the Edo period. Kabuki plays are usually about moral conflicts in love relationships.
During Ancient Japanese culture both men and women acted in Kabuki plays. Later women were forbidden to act in Kabuki Theatre - a restriction that still goes on today. Male kabuki actors play the roles of females.

The best place to see a Kabuki Theatre Show is in the Kabukiza Theater in Ginza. It is possible to rent English headphones and see just one act of a play, instead of sitting through a whole performance which lasts more than three hours.

Pachinko

Pachinko machines are uniquely Japanese. You can find them in pachinko parlors. These parlors are usually kitsch decorated places, with flashing lights and a constant noise from the metal balls, music and announcements.

It is a very strange game to a western eye since the player is completely passive while playing pachinko.
Most of the balls fall down the machine and disappear, but a few find their way into special holes. This activates a kind of a slot machine, and the player wins if the same three pictures appear.

The players win balls which they swap for prizes in the parlor's gift shop (teddy bears and the likes....). Gambling in Japan is illegal, but I hear you can exchange the teddy bears for cash just outside the parlor…

The Japanese Onsen –Tokyo Spa

Hot Springs are a very popular form of entertainment in Japan.
Japan Onsen waters are pumped from deep springs, and are at least 25°C. The water contains natural minerals which are believed to have many health benefits. Men and women bath separately.
There are several real Onsen in Tokyo. The most popular ones are –

  • Oedo Onsen Monogatari -
    Address – 2-57 Aomi, Koto-ku, Tokyo 135-0064
    Phone – 03-5500-1126
It's more of a water park with natural spring water, and an impressive dιcor duplicating the Edo period.

  • Zaboo -
Address – Close to the heart of Roppongi
    Phone – 03-5770-8100
Opening hours – 10:30 am to 9 am
Public transportation – to Roppongi Station
This is a nice (and expensive) place to enjoy a natural onsen. Many small inside and outside baths. Several sauna and relaxation rooms are also available.

  • Toshimaen Niwanoyu -
    Address – 3-25-1, Mukoyama, Nerima-ku
Phone – 03-3990-4126 Opening hours – 10 am to 11 pm (last entry 11 pm)
A huge complex including inside and outside baths, as well as sauna.

Don't confuse Onsen with the many Sento in Tokyo. The Sento are traditional public bathhouses. Most of them use normal tap water.
Unlike western cultures, the Japanese go into the bath after they have washed and rinsed, and feel like relaxing in hot water. It can be very calming. If you have the time - I recommend it since it's a very fundamental part of Japanese culture.

Japan Sports

Some of the best entertainment In Japan is the traditional Japan sports. You must have heard of Sumo, Japanese swords, Karate and Judo. Japan Sports Originate from a long Tradition.

Many followers of Japanese swords (Katana) visit Tokyo to examine and educate themselves on antique and modern Japanese Samurai swords. Sword making is considered an art.

Sumo is the national sport in Japan. Most Rikishi (Sumo wrestlers) are professional competitors weighing an average of 160-250 kg.

While planning your Entertainment In Japan, why don't you participate in a Sumo tournament? Buy your Sumo tickets in Advance, with this easy, hassle free way.

Hostess Bars

Ginza is also home to many hostess bars. This is part of doing business in Japan.

Many businessmen coming for business in Tokyo find themselves in such a bar as part of the entertainment In Japan. Tokyo business customs dictate this kind of hospitality.

Lately due to the global economy difficulties this kind of entertainment In Japan has been toned down. Unless this is specifically what you're looking for – there are better places to get to know Japan Entertainment. These hostess bars are extremely expensive.

Disneyland Tokyo

Disneyland Tokyo and Tokyo Disneyland Hotels are located 30 minutes from Tokyo by train. This Tokyo Disneyland resort is so popular that until three years ago it was the most visited theme park in the world. Certainly a major entertainment in Japan.

The Tokyo Disney park is famous for the huge crowds that visit even on regular weekdays. One of the main attractions is Tokyo Disney Sea.
Tickets are sold at the main entrance, but it's better to buy them in advance.

Japanese Gardens In Tokyo

The Japanese gardens are a wonderful place to relax from the Tokyo city buzz. While you're visiting one of the Japanese tea gardens, take the time to have Matcha green tea and Japanese sweets in the Japanese tea house.

The Japanese people treat the tea ceremony as an art form.
They use it as a sort of meditation – a way to detach themselves from the daily routine and to attain inner peace.

Some of the Japanese tea gardens in Tokyo have a small Japanese tea house, where you can participate in a certain part of the Japanese tea ritual, usually a shorter version of it.

If you'd like to participate in the 'real thing', this is an excellent place for a full Japanese tea ceremony.

Food In Tokyo – Tokyo Restaurants

Tokyo food is one of the greatest pleasures of a Tokyo vacation. Traditional Japanese food comes in many forms – from a cheap and cheerful Izakaya (like a Bar, but with better food) to high-end Michelin recommended restaurants.
Michelin Restaurant Guide For Tokyo Restaurants has acknowledged the fact that Tokyo is one of the most amazing cities in the world in terms of restaurants.
