What Is Cosplay?
Japan Cosplay, also known as Harajuku Clothing or Harajuku style, was created in Tokyo, and evolved into a global pop culture phenomenon.


Cosplay is a term that represents the words 'costume' & 'play'.
Cosplay costumes are a kind of fabulous combination of fashion design, crafting and performing Arts.

You may have heard of it in one of its different names - Japanese Cosplay, Gothic Cosplay, Harajuku Girls or Harajuku Fashion.

The Japanese Cosplay page is a good starting point for ideas on Harajuku Fashion and Cosplay outfits.


'Harajuku Girls' is also the title of Gwen Stefani's 2004 album. The reference to Tokyo street fashion, helped draw attention to Harajuku Gothic fashion.


You may also remember the deadly schoolgirl In the movie 'Kill Bill', which created acknowledgment for 'Japanese Schoolgirl fashion'.


Tokyo street fashion turned Tokyo fashion to be very well known in the world.

The ideas for Characters come from favorite Manga and Anima (Japanese Comics), video games and fantasy movies.
Any creature from the real or virtual world can be given a dramatic interpretation.


There are about 50,000 regular Cosplay followers in Japan.


Japanese Cosplay fans put a lot of work in their Cosplay costumes.
Every Cosplay costume is a unique outfit. The Cosplay followers make complicated handmade designs by working with lace, leather, PVC and combining ready made items and their own creations.

Japanese Cosplay is not the only one to compete in the World Cosplay Championship in Tokyo. Cosplayers came from 15 different countries.

Where Can You See Japan Cosplay?

Cosplay Girls and Boys meet in several Tokyo places, to show off their creations, share ideas and interact as a subculture that is centered on Japan Cosplay.


Every Sunday Cosplay followers meet on Jingu Bridge (a pedestrian bridge that connects Harajuku to Meiji Jingu shrine).


You can also see some of the Best Cosplay outfits in Tokyo's Akihabara district.
Akihabara has many Cosplay cafés for devoted Cosplay fans. The waitresses in these cafés dress in Cosplay costumes as game or Anime characters. These cafe's are also known as Maid cafe.
