As with most languages, only a small part of the words are used for communication in everyday life.


Most of your communication in Japan will be on basic subjects – shopping, ordering food and asking for directions in the street.


It's fun to be able to order at a Tokyo Restaurant or to understand part of the conversation at the table next to you. Speaking with the people is one of the best of Tokyo attractions.

In reality, when you try to speak the local language you get a lot of respect from the locals who appreciate your efforts.


How to speak Japanese? Personally I believe that the easy way to become talkative in a language you don't know is to learn a Basic Japanese word list.


If you are coming over to Tokyo for a few days, communicating is more important than grammar. Meeting the locals is more important than a perfect accent.
