Narita Airport Transportation
3 Ways Get To And From Tokyo Airport

Since the Airport in Tokyo is located outside the city, and since traffic jams at rush hours are a big thing here, you should consider a one to two hour trip to the city.
Exact time depends on rush hours and the type of transportation you choose to use.

There are 3 ways to arrive from Narita Airport to Tokyo –

  • The best in my opinion, certainly if you're landing in Tokyo for the first time, is the Narita Limousine bus.

Why is it an excellent option?
The Narita Airport Limousine Bus stops at major hotels in the city, so it's practically a 'door to door' service if you're staying in one of them.
No carrying suitcases around. Your luggage is put onto the bus by efficient attendants wearing white gloves. The driver himself will take it off the bus straight to the hands of your hotel employees.

Even if your hotel is not included in the bus route it would be easier than going by train and carrying the suitcases along the never ending corridors of the Tokyo subway.

Tokyo Subway system is packed during rush hours, and can be confusing - not the best thing to fall into after a long international flight.

If your hotel is not on the Narita Limousine bus route you can simply take a short Taxi drive from the nearest hotel on the route.

Ask at the Narita Limousine bus ticket booth, which is located right after you collect your luggage.

The price is around 3000 ¥, which is more or less the same as the train.
There is an Airport Limousine Bus every 15 minutes, and it takes around 90 minutes to arrive to the city

  • There are two train lines from the airport and both will get you into Tokyo.

The Japan Rail (JR) Narita Express called NEX, goes mostly to Tokyo Station. Some of the NEX go to Shinjuku or Shibuya.
Travel time to Tokyo Station is 60- 90 minutes.
NEX usually runs every one hour, and every 30 minutes at peak hours.

You will need to change trains at Tokyo Station for the Yamanote Line through to your hotel.
JR Narita Express costs around 3000 ¥. The train is free if you purchased a Japan Rail Pass before leaving home.

The Keisei Skyliner Airport Express will take you to Ueno station or Nippori only.
It is the cheapest option (2,000 ¥) but requires figuring out where you are and how to get to your Tokyo hotel. It takes around 30 minutes.

I would like to warn you that the Tokyo subway is very crowded during rush hours and can be confusing for first-timers.

Also, Tokyo subway stations are notoriously known for their long passageways, many stairs (no elevators) and are not an easy place to tackle even without luggage.

  • From Japan Narita Airport By Taxi – the price can climb up to 25,000¥. During rush hour traffic jams perhaps even more.
