Traditional Ryokan Japan - Tokyo Style Accommodation

Traditional Ryokan Japan - A Japanese Ryokan is something very unique.

This Tokyo Accommodation is one of the most exciting things to do in Tokyo.

Yoshimizu Ryoken Ginza

The Big Secret behind this Tokyo accommodation is that it's one of the most Romantic things to do in Tokyo.

In fact - so romantic, I hear some people have proposed during their stay.

(If you do propose there, please send me your story. I promise you a page dedicated just for you on this site.)

My favorite Tokyo Ryokan is Yoshimizu Ryokan Ginza.
This serene retreat has natural bamboo floors. The tatami (rice straw floor) used in the guest rooms is 100% organically grown. Traditional Japanese style Rooms can be fully experienced here.

<>Staying in a Ryokan style accommodation is very different from staying in a Western style hotel.

The floor in a Traditional Ryokan is covered with Tatami - a rice-straw matting. Furniture includes a low table. Doors are sliding screens.

The Fun part is sleeping on futon mattresses on the Tatami floor. The room maid spreads the futon after dinner, and puts it away in the morning.

The Cool Japanese Customs At The Traditional Ryokan

  • You walk around in slippers, Which are provided at the entrance.

  • You take off your slippers before stepping on the Tatami floor in your room.

  • You soap up and rinse outside the large bath tub, because the Japanese baths are for soaking, not scrubbing.
  • After the bath, you can change into a summer kimono - yukata robe. It takes some time to get used to it, but it's very comfortable...
