Sumo Wrestling Events and Schedule

Sumo Wrestling Events and Schedule Sumo is the national sport in Japan. It's an Authentic peek into Japan, dating back to Ancient Japanese Culture.

Professional Sumo Tournaments take place six times a year. Each tournament begins on Sunday and lasts 15 days.

During January, May and September tournaments are held in Tokyo.
The Sumo Arena in Tokyo is called Ryogoku Kokugikan.
The competition begins at 9:00 AM every day with the amateurs.
The professional wrestlers start around 2:30 PM.
But the real excitement begins at 3:50 PM, when the top ranked competitors enter the ring.

I recommend you Buy Sumo Tickets in Advance.
Sumo is the national sport in Japan. During Sumo tournaments in Tokyo, tickets for the upper division's matches are hard to find.
Also, the first rows in the Arena are tiny cabins. The Japanese sit there on their knees for hours, but it's unlikely that you can do that too. So you need specific tickets.
Part of the fun is taking the Tokyo subway with fellow Sumo fans to the Sumo Amphitheater and enjoying the atmosphere.

That's why I like this Sumo Tour which combines Riding with the fans on the subway, sitting in the back rows for comfortable seats, arriving in the Arena for the more advanced Matches and checking in on the Sumo museum to get some background on the origins of Sumo.

Tickets sales Begin December 10 (Saturday) at 10:00h
Grand Sumo January 2011 Schedule:

Tokyo Tournaments are held between 8-22 January Go Tokyo style, check out the Top Ways to Get Sumo Tickets.

Ippan Sanga Day – At the Imperial Palace

Imperial Palace Tokyo 2nd January

Ippan Sanga is one in 2 days of the year in which the Imperial Palace opens its doors.
Ippan Sanga is amongst the only two occasions in Japan when the general public is permitted to meet the Emperor and in turn enter the inner grounds of the Imperial Palace.
As this is a rare occasion to catch a glimpse of the Royal family, Japanese and many foreigners too gather to the palace grounds from early morning hours.
The current Emperor Akihito, Empress Michiko, the Crown Prince Naruhito, Crown Princess Masako and several other members of the Imperial Family meet the general public and exchange greetings and wishes.

The ritual begins from 9.30 in the morning and continues till 3 in the afternoon. The Royal family appears at an hourly interval at the palace balcony screened with a bulletproof glass.

Kuniyoshi: Spectacular Ukiyo-e Imagination

Kuniyoshi: Spectacular Ukiyo-e Imagination Sat Dec 17, 2011 - Sun Feb 12, 2012 Mori Art Museum Roppongi Hills

Ukiyo-e is a type of Japanese woodblock printing produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries, featuring Japanese motifs of landscapes, history and theatre.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s exhibition is in honor of the 150th anniversary of his death, and it's the biggest so far, collecting 420 pieces – some of them newly discovered.

Named as 'Edo’s ultimate graphic designer', Kuniyoshi's subjects ranged from traditional to monsters and cartoons.
He still retains the ability to entertain and surprise.
