Cancel Trip To Japan?

by Naomi S.

My friend and I have been planning a trip to Japan for several years. It is supposed to start in Tokyo on April 1, go to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Kyushu and back to Nagoya, Takayama, and Mt. Fuji area by April 20th.
Do you think it is still advisable to come? Do you think we will impose a hardship on the country and its resources or cheer you and support you?
I am asking the same question of all the hotels we have reserved.

I would wait and see if I were you. There’s still more than 2 weeks - things could get a lot better or worse - no one knows at this point.
Regarding the Japanese people- No one is very happy at this time, understandably. But people are naturally pretty resilient, they tend to take control of their emotions.
Their attitude is pragmatic; remove the wrecks, re-build, and forget what has happened.

I am confident that the Japanese will be able to recover and rebuild, and I believe if you want to support them in their efforts, one way to do it is to continue to travel to Tokyo and the rest of Japan.
But Please make sure to check on travel information before making the final decision, as it is updated frequently.

Airlines that fly into Japan are making flights to Tokyo, but certain countries have issued a warning against tourists traveling to Japan right now.

While Tokyo is well outside of the damage zone, there are certain things which are not back to normal.
Tokyo Electric Company has started rolling blackouts. People have been urged to cut the use of electricity.
This results in reduced store hours, and residents conserving food.
Transportation in Tokyo is running but on altered schedules.

Kyoto is business as usual so far.
In Hokkaido, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku and Kyushu, tourism facilities and transportation service are operated as usual.
