Flying Into Tokyo-What To Do About Tokyo Earthquake?
by Joan
(Florida)
My husband is flying into Tokyo from Hanoi next week-end. I am trying to change his flight but everything seems to be full.
Still waiting to hear on a possible flight.
How bad is it in Tokyo for him to keep his flight? How far is the airport from the Nuclear Plants?
Any thoughts would be appreciated

Reply To What To Do About Tokyo Earthquake?
Hi Joan,
Thanks to severe building codes, the result of the Japanese expertise in earthquakes, Tokyo city has suffered minor damage from Japan earthquake.
However, because Fukushima nuclear power plants on the east coast of Japan have been seriously damaged from the Tsunami, there are rolling power outages in Tokyo.
As a result Transportation is not running as usual.
Trains to Narita, including the Narita Express high-speed line are running on a reduced schedule so as to conserve power.
Tokyo Subway is also on a limited schedule.
Taking a Taxi/Limousine Bus is not a good idea as the Road to Narita airport is very jammed.
Trains to and from Haneda are running, but less frequently than normal.
As long as your husband takes longer transportation timetables into account, he's fine.
Narita Airport and Haneda Airport are both well away from the official radiation danger zone as stated by several foreign embassies and the Japanese government.
Central Tokyo and Haneda Airport are about 250 km to the south-southwest of the plants. Narita Airport is 210 km south of the plants.
