Tokyo Earthquake-What To Do?
by Rachael
(Australia)
Myself, my mum and my 7 year old daughter have plans to visit Tokyo on April 3,2011.
Each day I read about what is going on.
I feel I could visit Tokyo, however it is the radiation situation that is stopping me from feeling comfortable about coming.
I know you probably can't comment on this but what do you think.
Also mum and I have discussed whether the Japanese people would find us a hindrance at a time when it is still so hard for them.
We have a tour booked to mt Fuji and were planning to visit Tokyo Disneyland would it still be advisable to do this?

Dear Racheal,
First I will answer your question if this is the right time to come over to Tokyo from the Japanese people point of view. The Japanese people are the kindest, most gentle and polite people in the world. Currently many Japanese people I am working with have apologized to me (!!!) for any inconvenience the Japan earthquake has created...
I believe that seeing tourists vising Tokyo again will actually be interpreted as a gesture of support.
I wish I could give you a straightforward answer regarding the safety of visiting Tokyo and the dangers of another Tokyo Earthquake at this time.
Unfortunately the situation is still unclear. I would advise you to follow the news in the next couple of days, and postpone your decision till next week. I believe that the next 2 days will be critical regarding more information about radiation levels in Tokyo.
By the way-Kyoto, Osaka and Mt Fuji have not been harmed by Japan Earthquake.
Of course
Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival (end march-Mid April) is the Best time of the year to come over to Tokyo.
Lets hope that things clear up and that you will be able to enjoy the Cherry Blossom festival (end march-Mid April) .
Thank you for your sincere care for the Japanese people.
